Cool. I was thinking the 6X4's would be too high of compression on the 455, but 9.2 will work. Thanks for the suggestions!

I agree, keep the 72 455 and the 6X4's and you'll bee in the right range for compression.

A good balance of decent street-able performance, with most likely a standard bore to last you and your bird a lifetime...

That would be the way to go...

Brett!

Why not keep the 455 and use the 6X4s. This will give you about 9.2 compression. Also the 557 1975 blocks are known for weaker thinner webbing of all 400s. They are OK for the stock HP but not much else. Lucky you have the 988 block. Its worth more. <img src="http://forum.wwfirebirds.com/my-plugins/smiley-choice/default/icon_razz.gif" title=":P" class="bb_smilies" />

Hello all:

Long time no talk, or see... I finally got around to tearing down two extra motors I have and am planning on selling one of them. I thought I would post this because, once I figure out which I will keep to build, I will offer the other here first.

The first is a '75 400 block that is the 481988 code. It looks to be an original bore but I am going to have a local machine shop check the bores as there is some rust in two of them. I want to make sure it is buildable with no cracks.

The second is an all-original '72 455 I pulled out of a Bonneville about ten years ago, and it is remarkably clean inside. I left the short block alone because I don't even think it will need to be bored oversize. I am going to have that verified too.

I have an extra set of 6x-4's and a set of 6x-8's and will keep the 4's if I sell the 455, or keep the 8's if I sell the 400. Just throwing this out to see if there is any local interest...

Thanks, Rick

Pretty impressive. Just needs snowflake wheels! What do you guys think?

EDIT: Found this link to the company that makes the kit.

Cool Thanks. I have heard back from a few members who think that May would be a good month, since the weather is still iffy at best. I will see if we can book may. How does this sound to you all? I was kinda thinking of getting aleast one car from each generation, and maybe a couple of not so perfect cars to show that we have all types in the club, from show winners to projects and daily drivers. We can display original club newsletters, t-shirts, jackets and hats and show shirts. We have had poster made with the club logo on them that are floating around. This could be really cool!

Jeff, If you can't find another 4th gen I will be happy to donate mine since she is not a daily driver. That being said we have plenty of nicer 4th Gen's in the club that I would rather see represent our club. Whenever the club wants to do this I am game.

For those who were not able to make it to Sunday's meeting, there is a club corner at the LeMay Family Collection at the Matymount building in Tacoma. Many of you were interested in doing this, however the only months still availiable are May, June , July August and September, prime car months. Maybe we can try for early 2013? This is a really great way to get our club more in the public eye. I will send out and email with the attachments with the over view and application. We can make this a great club event!

Well we ended up bringing home another 4th gen. Picked up a 97 TA. She needs some love but is in pretty good shape overall. My take on it is anytime you pay under $2k for a 4th gen and then are able to hit 100 mph on the way home its money well spent. Pops is stoked about it and looking forward to some events this year!

Howdy Josh, what generation is he looking for? Here in Auburn there is a 1978 Esprit on a car lot. its in the back of the lot. I think he's looking for like $2800, but there is definately room for negotiation. It is the same color blue as the Sky Bird package. It is all there. with the original 350 Pontiac with A/C. Interior is hashed. He didn't have ther key when I checked it out, so we couldn't start it. But hed called me a couple of weeks ago and said they have the key now. it is not on their website. And I am drawing a blank on the name of the lot, but its almost on the corner is 15th Ave NE and Auburn Way North, accross from starbucks. Karen was wanting to get it, but in all realitry we don't have the space.

So I am looking for any leads on some Firebirds under $2k. With preference given to the most complete of course. I am all over Craigslist and will starting to line up some to look at. If any of them belong to members let me know.

Great looking cruz. I was there in spirit guys, really! Something about being tied to hospital recliner by an IV full of pain meds kept me from joining you this year. It was an emergency surgery due to the fact that I pulled free the plates they had just put in 4 weeks ago on the 18th last month during my last operation. Rather depressing, but I'm hey, I'm on the mend now! Yea! See ya all soon!
